June 29th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
If you have a passion for old watches and, specifically, Gruen watches, you're going to want to check out this continuing article on the history of the Gruen watch company.
It's truly sad to see such a fine watch company fade out like this, but such is life in the busy world of time pieces. One day, your company is thriving and all is well; the next day, you make one mistake that gets out into the public, and your company blows up. It's the harsh reality of the dog-eat-dog business climate we live in, but it's a reality we all face. It's too bad Gruen didn't make it, but at least we have a few beautiful watches left to remember this great company by…

They are a thing of beauty and should be treated as such.

An old watch that sold for more than one million British Pounds
May 5th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
I just read this little bit about Old Watches as an investment, and I came across this startling fact:
The record price paid for a wristwatch at auction in the U.K. saw a gold, 1932 "Trossi Leggenda" Patek Philippe watch, originally owned by Italian racing driver Count Carlo Felcie Trossi, go under the hammer at Sotheby's in 2008 for CHF 2.345 million – equivalent to GBP 1.14 million.
That's one watch we're talking about here! Can you believe it!? Well, it's real. It seems that old watches are a huge investment when you know what you're doing.
By the way, the article where I read the above quote is here.
More to come on the investment side of old watches, soon.

A simple buyer’s tip for collectors of old watches: search eBay!
February 16th, 2011 § Leave a Comment
While browsing what is admittedly not my favorite site in the world, antiquewatchreviews.com, I came across a good observation they made about old watches that I find a lot people new to the watch collector's world never think of, perhaps because it's too obvious:
With the economy the way it is now, a lot of people are selling their Antique Watch on eBay at prices you'll find hard to believe.
They're right. If you're looking for a specific antique watch, take a few minutes and perform a search on eBay and you're bound to find a wide array of listings for whatever it is you're looking for. Easy! Check it out here: eBay.com
